According to a worldwide study on spreading Islam, the population of British Muslims is expected to increase by 200 percent during the next two decades.
It is said that almost 10 percent of British people will be Muslim within 20 years. The result of the study showed that the number of British Muslims would be more than Kuwait, which is an Islamic country, or US, which is 5 times bigger than Britain.
The respected Pew Research Centre studies revealed that between 1990 and 2030 there is a 5-time increase in the Muslim population, which is to reach 5.5 million. According to Washington think tank, the main cause of this increase is migration.
“The greatest increases in the Muslim share of the population - driven primarily by continued migration - are likely to occur in Western and Northern Europe, where Muslims will be approaching double-digit percentages of the population in several countries,” it said.
The reports are based on previous studies on population changes. By 2030, Muslim population is to be 26 percent of the world population of 8.3bn. The current Muslim population is 23 percent of the 6.9bn world population.
The figures and analysis of the Muslim population came when there had been debates over Muslim views in Britain. Those figures represent an increase from 1.6 billion in 2010 to 2.2 billion in 2030, a rise of 35 per cent.
Baroness Warsi, Tory Party chairperson, said that discrimination against Muslims and categorizing them should be stopped.
